DETOUR | episode 9
CREATIVE CRIBS: SPECIAL EDITION ft @detour303 !
This month is a special edition cribs as we think about what home can be. In this edition, I show you around Detour’s studio/ creative space as he spends as much - if not more - time here than at his actual crib. If you are an artist or if you know someone who is, you know that their studio space or their creative projects take up mass amounts of their time and we can find ourselves having homes away from homes in our pursuit of creativity.

Thomas Evans - aka Detour - never actually intended on being the dope ass mural artist he is now. He started with other mediums before painting, such as drawing and airbrush in school, as well as participating in art shows. After moving from OH to all over and finally to CO, he got his MBA in business. ⚡️
After school he planned on entering the military but tore his knee. It was for the best as an opportunity opened to do volunteer work in Tanzania. He went there for for 6 months and coached b-ball and marketing for non profit, teaching entrepreneurship and art.
Once he came back he moved into making art full time and showing at places like @themeadowlarkbar and Cold Crush (aww I miss them). Diving into the Denver music scene allowed him to create live work; painting while people play. This lead him to his mural work, which helped him gain more exposure. He’s since produced work for @netflix, @sprite, and @redbull.
⚡️
Today Detour is painting on the regular and constantly working on the journey of his art form. He uses layers, textures, interactive pieces, and different materials that add to the evolution his work. Sometimes you don’t plan on where you end up. You take opportunities as they come and use your experiences to help form your future. *Fun Fact* Thomas got his name Detour from a breakdancing VHS tape he got in Germany. ⚡️⚡️⚡️

Top musical artists currently jamming: I’m more of a podcast guy, but Da Baby, JID, J-Cole, Big K.R.I.T.
Fav thing to do in your crib when you’re not working: Since there’s not a lot of free time I’m always “on” and figuring out how to get more work in or what to do. I forget to eat so in my free time I eat and watch movies.
